Guidelines for pixel defects found in PRESTIGIO products
(effective since 02-04-2006)
At a resolution of 1024x768 pixels, where each consists of three sub-pixels (red, green, blue), approximately 2.4 million transistors are in use altogether. Owing to this very high number of transistors and the extreme complex manufacturing process associated with that, in rare cases defect pixels or sub-pixels might occur.
To regulate the acceptability of defects and to protect the end user, ISO[1] have created a standard for manufacturers to follow. ISO 13406-2 recommends how many defaults are acceptable in a display before it should be replaced, within the terms & conditions of warranty.
According to ISO 13406-2 further fault classes with the following number of faults are specified. Type 1, 2 or 3 refers to pixels differentiation respectively, which denotes always illuminated, never illuminated or containing sub-pixel faults:
LCD panel class | Fault Type 1 | Fault Type 2* | Fault Type 3* |
Class I | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Class II | 2 | 2 | 5 |
Class III | 5 | 15 | 50 |
Class IV | 50 | 150 | 500 |
*Type 1, 2 or 3 refers to pixels differentiation respectively, which denotes always illuminated, never illuminated or containing sub-pixel faults.
All PRESTIGIO LCD displays for monitors, TV and notebooks conform to LCD Class II of ISO 13406-2 standard.
The table below shows the allowable number of malfunctioning pixels and subpixels that are acceptable, depending on the native resolution of the LCD panel:
Resolution standard | Number of pixels | Acceptable quantity of defects
fault type 1* | fault type 2* | fault type 3*
1024 x 768 | 786,432 | 2 | 2 | 4 |
1280 x 1024 | 1,310,720 | 3 | 3 | 7 |
1400 x 1050 | 1,680,000 | 3 | 3 | 8 |
1600 x 1200 | 1,920,000 | 4 | 4 | 10 |
*Type 1, 2 or 3 refers to pixels differentiation respectively, which denotes always illuminated, never illuminated or containing sub-pixel faults.
